Ghalib’s diwan exemplifies the timeless appeal of his poetry. Even though Ghalib passed away over 150 years ago, his poetry still impacts and engages readers today. Anyone who likes intelligent literature or Urdu poetry should read Diwan e Ghalib.

This diwan’s selection of Urdu poetry is a perfect example of Ghalib’s artistic beauty and grace. His poetry still evokes strong feelings and provokes thought because of his extraordinary command of language and imagery. The poetry in the diwan is a veritable gold mine that showcases Ghalib’s inventiveness and intelligence.

In Urdu literature, Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib is considered one of the greatest poets. He was derived from a well-known Seljuqid Turkish family and was born in Agra in 1797. Despite his family’s background, Ghalib faced a life of uninterrupted suffering and grief, with only a brief period of happiness in his early youth.

He was married at thirteen and moved to Delhi permanently in 1812. Ghalib had no regular source of income and relied on patrons for help, which often resulted in more problems. His domestic life was far from pleasant, and he never had a house. He and his wife were not temperamentally compatible, and all seven of their children perished in infancy.

Ghalib was a man of broad sympathies, generous and compassionate, but also ruthless towards opponents. He was an aristocrat by descent and temperament and was proud of his lineal descent. He loved the good things of life but lived meagerly and felt indignant that he was not adequately appreciated at the court.

Ghalib wrote more in Persian than in Urdu, but he is more loved and remembered for his Urdu works. He started writing poetry when he was ten and was a complex poet whose world was vast and contradictory. His Ghazals are unique and express intense emotions with exquisite melody and a profound feeling for the world’s beauty. Ghalib passionately appreciated the unity of existence and was a valuable poet for his utterly fresh approach to the world.
