This book has been written with the purpose of training the personnel of emergency services of Pakistan in the field of First Aid and Disaster Management. The emergency services in Pakistan comprise those provided by the following institutions: The Police, Fire Brigade, Civil Defence, and Emergency Medical and Ambulance services.
To bring about coordination, complementarity, and efficiency in these services, there is a fire need to build the capacity of emergency services infrastructure and the knowledge and skills of its human resources. For this purpose, this training package is prepared for the personnel of emergency services from the Ministry of Health, the Police, the Edhi ambulance services, and all the other public and private institutions involved in this sub-sector of health emergencies.
As there was no sufficient training material or books available in Urdu in this regard, WHO commends the efforts made by Dr. Rizwan Naseer to develop this practical valuable book and edited by a core of senior professionals.
The book covers the principles of first aid and disaster management, addressing all the important topics. Apart from the principles of first aid, it also guides on the steps to be followed when managing a disaster. The principles of management of possible hazards like fire, and natural disasters, as well as biological and chemical accidents, have also been included in this book.
