Anar Kali Begum is a famous historical novel written in Bengali by Rabindranath Tagore and translated into Urdu by Ahmad Mian. It is the painful love story of Prince Salim and Nadira Begum, aka Anarkali.
The story clearly shows King Akbar’s narrow-mindedness, Anarkali’s courage and persistence, and Prince Salim’s stubbornness. On the one hand, there is the father’s compassion, and on the other hand, there is the pure passion of love, based on which the son is willing to rebel.
The intensity of love, the courage to speak face to face with the great king, the passion to reject wealth and bear the hardships of imprisonment, all this will be seen in this story. The translator has retained Tagore’s characteristic narrative language in the translation, and to some extent, he is successful.
