Khushal Khan Khattak was a prominent Pashtun poet, warrior, and tribal chief of the Khattak tribe. He wrote a huge collection of Pashto poems during the Mughal Empire in the 17th century and admonished Pashtuns to forsake their divisive tendencies and unite against the Mughal Army. Promoting Pashtun nationalism through poetry, he was a renowned military fighter who became known as a warrior-poet. Khushal Khan’s poetry consists of more than 45,000 poems. According to some historians, the number of books written by Khattak is more than 200. His more famous books are Baz Nama, Fazal Nama, Distar Nama, Farrah Nama and Swat Nama.
The author of the book “Sayed Rasool Rasa” was a well-known writer, researcher, critic and poet of the Pashto language. He was born in 1910 in the village of Badrashi, a town in the Nowshera District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. His father’s name was Mian Muhammad Saeed. He became an English teacher at Peshawar High School in 1937 and then at Haripur.
In 1942, he became a Translator-Announcer at the New Delhi Broadcasting Station. He later became a Pashto Song Publicity Officer and a Commentator in the Middle Eastern section of All-India Radio. Mr. Rasa has many published prose and poetic works in Pashto. Mia Syed Rasool Rasa was also the second director of Peshawar Pashto Academy.
