Sultan Shamsuddin Altamash by Aslam Rahi M.A. Shams ud-Din Iltutmish, was the third Mamluk king who ruled the former Ghurid territories in northern India. He was the first Muslim sovereign to rule from Delhi and is thus considered the effective founder of the Delhi Sultanate.
His father’s name was Elim Khan, a poor man. He was a man of excellence in beauty, wisdom, foresight and dexterity from his childhood. Because of his intelligence and beauty, his brothers became jealous and hated him.
The story of Sultan Shamsuddin is similar to the story of Hazrat e Yousaf a.s. Just as Joseph’s brothers hated Joseph because his father loved him more than Joseph. similarly, Shamsuddin’s father loved him more than any of his brothers because of his personality, and as Joseph’s brothers addressed his father.
“O father, why you don’t trust us and don’t send Joseph along with us? . Even though we are sincerely grateful to him. Let him go with us tomorrow so he can eat and play there. We are responsible for his safety.”
In the same way, Sultan Shamsuddin’s brothers told his father. “Send him with us so that we can show him the flocks of beautiful horses that some traders have brought for sale.”
His father, Elim Khan, allowed his son to accompany his brothers. When the brothers took his intelligent and handsome brother to the horse market, instead of showing the horses there, he sold his dearly beloved brother to a merchant. The merchant took him to Bukhara and sold them to a close relative of the ruler of Bukhara. And thus the child became a slave to the royal family. Time passed, and one day this slave child became a great ruler of his time.
