The Peshawar Museum could be a wonderful place packed with veritable treasures of art, sculpture and historic relics. it had been founded in 1907. Its red bricks building encompass spacious hall, for facet galleries 2 on the bottom and 2 on the upper story of the main building . The hall and other three galleries are reserved for exhibition of Ghundjara Sculpture, terracotta figurines, Lilith inscriptions, toilet, trays and household objects. We are able to see the colossal standing Buddha and an over-sized variety of Buddha heads in numerous sizes each in stone and stucco are on show here.
The other sections of museum coated the time of Muslims and Tribal. The prize possession of the Museum is but the Kanishka casket recovered from Shahji Dheri on the outskirts of Peshawar throughout the archeological excavations conducted in 1908-09. The inscribed casket in Kharosti contained 3 fragments of bone of the Buddha, that got by the British Government to the Buddhist Society of Burma, that re-shrine them at Madalay. This famous casket is on show during this museum.
