Dastan-e-Raiyan by Muhammad Sharif PDF Free Download
Dastan-e-Raiyan (داستان راعیاں: راعیوں کی کہانی دستاویزات کی زبانی) is a research and historical work by Muhammad Sharif, Subedar Major (Retd), that attempts to explore the lineage, historical background, and religious and social role of the Arain community (Ra’in) of the subcontinent in the light of authentic historical references.
The main theme of the book is the Arab tribe of ‘Banu Samah ‘, the historical existence of whose three branches, ‘Abraha Samah’, Sheikh Samah, and Ra’in Samah and their travels and services in the subcontinent are the subject of special discussion by the author.
This book seeks to answer the basic questions of when and by which route the Arabs ‘Banu Samah’ came to the subcontinent, who their ancestors were, how they settled in Sindh and Punjab and how the branch of Raiyan Samah took the form of the present Arain community over time. The author, instead of relying on mere traditional tales, name resemblances or speculative theories, has tried to substantiate his research with ancient historical books, documents and reference materials.
A prominent feature of this work is the author’s long research quest. After going through ancient records and historical sources for many years in the renowned libraries of London, the scattered materials were combined so that the history of ‘Bannu Samah and its various branches, especially Ra’in Samah’, could be brought out more clearly.
Dastaan-e-Ra’iyan is not just a genealogy of a community, but a serious journey to find out the arrival of the Arab-born Banu Samah in the subcontinent, their religious and social role and the historical identity of the Arain community. This book, while informing the new generation about its past, invites them to consider aspects of history, lineage, and cultural identity that have been hidden in the dust of time for centuries.
