Recent reforms in Bacha Khan’s movement, the interest of Pakhtuns living abroad in the revival of the Pakhtun national movement, and the extremist tendencies that have spread in Pakhtunkhwa demand that the personality and thoughts of Bacha Khan should be exposed at the public level. Realizing this need, the Bacha Khan Research Center has undertaken research on various aspects of Pakhtun society, as well as research into Bacha Khan’s life, struggle, and the Khudai Khidmatgar movement.

We are very grateful to Dr. Syed Waqar Ali Shah Sahib who took up the task of conducting the biographical research work of Bacha Khan and brought it to completion. We are also deeply grateful to Ms. Durr e Nayab Sahibzada who translated it into easy Urdu for the general readers.

There are many autobiographical studies available on Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan aka Bacha Khan but mainly focuses on his personality and the various stages of his affiliation with the Indian National Congress. The subject of this article is the study and analysis of his life, era, and struggles. In addition, this article specifically highlights his role in the struggle for independence, the revival of Pakhtun nationalism, and the popularity of non-violence in Pakhtun society. Furthermore, this article examines Bacha Khan’s role as a social reformer, educator, and politician.

The distinguishing feature of this article is that it analyzes the life of Bacha Khan and his role in politically mobilizing the Pakhtun nation to assert its rights during the British imperialist era in India based on information obtained from the original source. As mentioned at the outset, the main theme of this article is Bacha Khan’s role in the freedom struggle, however, in order to better acquaint the readers with his life and era, there is a brief description of his post-partition activities.
