Tanhai Ke So Saal Novel, by Dr Naeem Klasra, is the Urdu translation of the world’s most famous novel, “One Hundred Years of Solitude,” which was written by Gabriel García Márquez in the Spanish language originally.

Gabriel García Márquez was born on March 6, 1927, in Colombia. He was a Latin American novelist, journalist, and author. Gabriel Márquez was one of the best writers of the Spanish language, and his novel ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’ is famous worldwide. This novel, published in 1967, has sold three crore volumes. Marquez was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982 for this novel.

“Tanhai Ke So Sall” is an epic tale that spans over a century, unveiling the history of the isolated town of Macondo and the extraordinary Buendía family who founded it. In this masterpiece of magical realism, Dr. Kalasra weaves a mesmerizing narrative that explores the complexities of human existence, solitude, destiny, and the cyclical nature of life.

The story begins with the patriarch of the Buendía family, José Arcadio Buendía, who is both a visionary and an enigmatic figure. In his relentless pursuit of knowledge, he isolates himself from the world, becoming a solitary leader in Macondo. Macondo, cut off from the outside world, experiences occasional visits from travellers who bring technological marvels, introducing the townspeople to wonders like ice and telescopes.

As the Buendía family unfolds across generations, the traits inherited from José Arcadio shape their destinies. His older son, José Arcadio, inherits his father’s strength and recklessness, while his younger son, Aureliano, inherits his intense focus and mystery. Throughout the book, births, deaths, marriages, and love affairs mark the major turning points in the lives of the Buendías, portraying the richness and complexity of their familial relationships.

However, the tranquil solitude of Macondo is disrupted when the town establishes contact with neighboring towns, and civil wars ravage the land. Aureliano, now known as Colonel Aureliano Buendía, becomes a leader of the Liberal rebels, thrusting Macondo into a world of violence and turmoil. The town’s governments change hands multiple times, with dictators and mayors rising and falling, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

When an American-owned banana plantation symbolizes capitalist forces exploiting the land and its inhabitants, Macondo’s transformation accelerates. The arrival of imperialist capitalism erodes the idyllic existence of Macondo, leading to a strike by mistreated banana workers and a brutal massacre by the army. The ensuing years bring ceaseless rain, culminating in a devastating flood that pushes Macondo to its ultimate decline.

As the village and its inhabitants succumb to the weight of violence and false progress, the Buendía family also faces their own unravelling. Ursula Iguarán, the family’s resilient matriarch, strives to maintain unity amidst their differences, but their collective destiny appears inexorable. The once-famous family becomes estranged and caught up in a cycle of incestuous relationships due to nostalgia and the allure of their past.

Tanhai Ke So Saal (One Hundred Years of Solitude) is an unforgettable literary masterpiece that combines the richness of Latin American culture, the complexities of human nature, and the allure of magical realism. Dr Kalasra’s storytelling prowess and deep understanding of the human condition make this book a profound exploration of solitude, destiny, and the eternal cycle of life and death.
