Urdu Aur Pashto Ke Mushtarak Alfaz, compiled by Prof. Pareshan Khattak. This book contains a list of more than five thousand words that are common in Urdu and Pashto languages. There is no doubt that many of these words are derived from Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit, Hindi, and Turkish. There is also a good number of words that are borrowed from English. But these words are now accepted by both languages as if they were their own words.

Who can deny the fact that the Urdu language is a mixture of other languages? This is the beauty of the Urdu language that it wraps words of other languages in its footsteps in such a way that then the same words become known as its own words. Every language that has the capacity for breadth is a mirror of this quality.

English itself, which has undoubtedly become an international language at this time, has a large number of words from French, Latin, Hebrew, Italian, Arabic, and German languages, even English has adopted Urdu words. Therefore, there is no shame in using other languages’ words in an Eastern language.

One thing you will definitely notice in this collection is that some of the Urdu and Pashto words have very slight accent differences. But it is a pleasant surprise to see that there are a total of five thousand and twenty-two words in this list, which seem to be common in both languages. This can be confirmed by the authentic dictionaries of Urdu and Pashto.

There was an urgent need to compile this list, as some people were bent on fighting over languages. They have completely forgotten the fact that languages have never been and will never be in conflict with each other. Rather, they are anxious to embrace each other. Now, if our intellectuals and writers would bring their creations to light on the basis of these thousands of common words, then they would be very much appreciated in Pakistan. So that we will be able to solve the self-made problem of languages in an efficient way.

Let us pledge to start a new experiment for the sake of this beautiful land by strengthening national unity by taking full advantage of the common linguistic heritage of Urdu, Pashto, Punjabi, Sindhi, Balochi, Brohi, Kashmiri and Chitrali, etc.
