Nawabzada Jamiluddin Aali was a renowned Pakistani poet, critic, playwright, essayist, travel writer, unique columnist, and scholar. Jamiluddin Aali was born on January 20, 1925, in a literary family in Delhi. His father, Amiruddin Ahmad Khan, was the Nawab of Loharo. Aali studied up to a BA in Delhi. After the partition of India, Aali migrated with his family to Pakistan and settled in Karachi, and started his career as an assistant in the Ministry of Commerce. In 1951, he passed the Pakistan Civil Service Examination and joined the Pakistan Taxation Service. He also served as Special Duty Officer in the Presidency from 1959 to 1963. Ali joined the National Bank of Pakistan in 1967 and remained its Vice President till his retirement in 1988.

Jamiluddin Aali was also a former member of the Pakistan Peoples Party and had contested the 1977 National Assembly elections from NA-191 but lost to Munawar Hassan of Jamaat-e-Islami. In 1997, Aali was elected to the Senate for a six-year term with the support of the United National Movement.

Aali started writing poetry at an early age and wrote many books as well as songs. He wrote the song “Jive Jive Pakistan,” which became very popular during the 1965 Indo-Pak war. Shahnaz Begum sang the song, and the music was composed by Sohail Rana. It was released on 14th August 1971 by PTV.

Meanwhile, Aali was suffering from diabetes and respiratory disease and was admitted to a hospital in Karachi. He died of a heart attack in Karachi on November 23, 2015, and was buried in a military cemetery in Karachi.
